Thousands of CCTV cameras will monitor Abu Dhabi city and surrounding areas.

The cctv system covers the capital’s main and surrounding islands, international airport and the Bani Yas and Mussaffah areas with surveillance cameras installed on roads and buildings.

The Abu Dhabi Monitoring and Control Centre said the main function is to monitor roads and highways and manage traffic flow in and around the city.

The system will monitor traffic violations such as the use of the hard shoulder, illegal parking.

Flashless speed cameras will begin operating at 46 junctions on Al Maryah island.

The additions are part of a larger project being rolled out in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region over the next five years to fit 150 light-controlled junctions with surveillance cameras.

Common traffic breaches on Al Maryah include motorists jumping red lights, cars stopping on pedestrian crossings, and failure to give priority to pedestrians.

Speeding and illegal U-turns are also an issue.

ABU DHABI // Security cameras inside Abu Dhabi taxis will curb aggressive driving and the use of hand-held phones among cabbies, help identify fare dodgers and prevent disputes, residents and drivers say.

On Saturday, the Centre for Regulation of Transport by Hire Cars (TransAd) announced a year-long project to install CCTVs in all taxis.

In the roll-out stage, 100 cars will be fitted with cameras. The second phase will be carried out within the year covering the entire TransAd fleet.

The cameras will enable specialists at the centre to monitor journeys to ensure the safety of the driver and passengers. It will also help in the process of returning lost items.

The cameras would make taxi rides safer and protect drivers from abusive passengers.

At the moment, the authorities do not have any idea what’s happening inside the taxi. The driver may try to strike up a conversation with a female passenger who is alone in the taxi, or the passenger can be extremely rude and unreasonable.

Ladies would feel safer with cameras monitoring driver behaviour.

The cameras will also be used to settle any claims made by passengers against drivers.

"Some passengers make false statements to TransAd when they lodge a complaint," he said.

"The officers at the investigation unit of TransAd can review the footage to determine who’s at fault."

"When taxi drivers drop passengers in many areas outside the city, they would leave the taxi without paying. It has happened many times."

TransAd began installing the back-facing, front-mounted cameras in various vehicles types, including the new Mercedes Vito Compact taxis, last week.

The cameras will be on around the clock with the footage recorded and streamed live to the TransAD monitoring station and the government monitoring centre.

Research conducted by the taxi authority showed a need for in-car surveillance for safety reasons.

There are more than 7,000 silver taxis in the emirate, six special-needs vans, 220 airport vans and 270 Mercedes Vito Compact vans.

The new vans with sound-proof privacy glass and an intercom system are being fitted with two cameras.

ABU DHABI // Portable speed cameras will keep the UAE’s motorists on their toes and can catch speeding across traffic lanes.

An armour-plated "enforcement trailer" speed camera was introduced at the Natrans Expo held at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre in 2016.

The advanced radar system inside the trailer, allows the camera to monitor speeds on vehicles across all lanes and in both directions.

The cameras can read licence plates and detect infractions such as speeding, vehicles driving too close to the next one, erratic lane changes and overtaking on the hard shoulder.

The trailer can transmit case data to authorities, he said.

Once installed, it is fully autonomous. Its power supply with batteries provides a very high autonomy and it can run uninterrupted for five days.

By the end of the year, the French interior ministry plans to use more than 250 trailer units on its roads. It expected to double that number by the end of 2018. Germany, Luxembourg and Spain have also tested the devices.

UAE federal transport officials, as well as Abu Dhabi and Dubai police, were briefed on the device on the opening day of the expo.

This device is highly welcomed for the UAE since it introduces the element of surprise in traffic enforcement.

Motorists may try to fool fixed cameras, slowing down when approaching one and speeding once past it.

There are at least three types of automated enforcement systems in Abu Dhabi: fixed radar cameras, infrared no-flash cameras at traffic junctions and mobile radar cameras.

Traffic patrol cars and unmarked patrol cars in Abu Dhabi are also equipped with the latest technology to catch speedsters.

Apple's 2014 iPhone 6 is expected to include a larger redesigned form factor, with 4.7" and 5.5" diagonal screens. The 4.7" model will be introduced first around September, with the 5.5" model following later.
<iframe width="560" height="315" src="" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Apple typically releases its new models at the same price as the old ones. If that holds out,
then we'd expect the 16GB model to cost £549, 32GB model to cost £629, the 64GB model £709. A
larger screen could see prices go up, though.

There could be a $50 to $100 premium for a larger iPhone 6, compared to the 4in iPhone 5s. However, there is potential good news. As Apple is said to be planning two screen sizes, it may be that the 4.7in model costs the same as the current iPhone, with only the larger phablet costing more. We're going to have towait until much closer to launch to have any true idea of pricing, though.

Camera Additions

A recent rumor has suggested that the iPhone 6 may continue to use the 8-megapixel sensor found in the iPhone 5s and the iPhone 5c, while adding other camera improvements. The size of the iPhone's display grew from 3.5 inches to 4 inches with the iPhone 5, and with the iPhone 6, the screen will grow even larger.

Apple has been experimenting with a wide variety of screen sizes, with the majority of rumors solidifying around a range of 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches, bringing the next iPhone in line with competing Android and Windows phones that have all adopted larger displays.

Apple acknowledged high consumer demand for phones with larger displays in one of its own internal presentations, and based on that evidence, it seems clear the company isplanning to address the growing segment of market that desire bigger phones.

Apple is expected to release the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 around September of 2014, but there has been some disagreement about the launch date of the 5.5-inch iPhone. Due to production issues that may or may not be resolved, the larger 5.5-inch iPhone could launch alongside the 4.7-inch version, or at a somewhat later date.

Both the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhones will have an increased resolution due to their larger screens, possibly at 1704 x 906, a pixel-tripled resolution that would give the 4.7-inch model a pixel density of 416 and the 5.5-inch version a pixel density of 365.

Along with a larger screen, the iPhone 6 may feature a durable sapphire display in at least some models, and rumors have also indicated the iPhone 6 may adopt slimmer bezels and a thinner chassis. The larger 5.5-inch iPhone 6 might also incorporate Optical Image Stabilization as a
differentiating feature from the 4.7-inch iPhone 6.

Display Technology

Current iPhones use Low Temperature Poly Silicon (LTPS) technology, and Apple is likely to continue using that technology for the iPhone 6.

Processor Upgrades

The iPhone 5s incorporates a 64-bit A7 28-nanometer chip manufactured by Samsung. Apple's iPhone 6 will reportedly utilize a 20-nanometer A8 chip from TSMC, which will be both smaller and more energy efficient. Samsung will continue to be involved in the production, however, helping to alleviate some of TSMC's manufacturing load.

iOS 8

Apple's iOS updates generally happen along iPhone launches, which means the iPhone 6 is likely to ship with iOS 8. Previewed at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference in June, iOS 8 introduces several new features that improve integration between Apple's mobile and desktop devices.

Along with tools to allow for seamless transitions of tasks between iPhones, iPads, and Macs, iOS 8 also includes improved Message management tools, interactive notifications, a revamped "QuickType" keyboard, iCloud Drive access, and an all new health and fitness aggregation app, called simply "Health."

Apple's iPhone 6 is likely to continue to feature the Touch ID fingerprint sensor first found in the iPhone 5s.

Apple's next-generation iPhone may also support the 802.11ac Wi-Fi standard that first began appearing in Apple products in 2013. 802.11ac, or "Gigabit" Wi-Fi, offers speeds up to three times as fast as existing 802.11n wireless networks, reaching speeds over 1 Gigabit per second.

Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) is one way the camera in the iPhone 6 may be improved, and there are reports that Apple will integrate OIS into the iPhone 6.Optical Image Stabilization uses motion-tracking in order to compensate for device shakiness, allowing for sharper photos and videos. Apple may incorporate NFC technology into the device as part of a mobile payment solution. The inclusion of NFC in the iPhone 6 would be a bit unusual.

Release Date

The majority of rumors have pointed towards a September release of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6, followed by a launch of the 5.5-inch version towards the end of the year or in early 2015. Apple's 5.5-inch iPhone was said to be experiencing production issues that have pushed back the company's target release date for the device, but recent rumors have suggested that Apple may have solved 5.5-inch iPhone production issues. Bloomberg has also indicated that both phones will go into mass production at the same time, so a simultaneous release is still a possibility.

A recent rumor has suggested the release date of the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 could be Friday, September 19, which is in line with both previous rumors and former iPhone launch timelines. Apple supplier Foxconn is currently said to be hiring 100,000 additional employees before production on the iPhone 6 ramps up next month.

    Release Date: Fall 2014
Larger screen: 4.7" (perhaps 1704x960 pixels) and 5.5"
    Sapphire crystal screen
Faster and more efficient A8 chip
